The bandwagon effect is the pull to do, like or believe something simply because lots of other people already do. As a choice gains followers it becomes more attractive for that reason alone, so popularity feeds on itself - people climb aboard partly because the wagon is already full.
Your lean shifted once you saw which option the crowd had picked, didn't it? The option itself never changed - only the count beside it did. That's the bandwagon effect: popularity reads as evidence and as safety, so "most people choose this" quietly becomes a reason to choose it too. Just make sure the crowd you're showing is a real one.
