What this video covers

Sensory appeal is how richly a design engages the senses - through visual texture and depth, motion, sound, and on touch devices, haptics. Thoughtful sensory detail makes a product feel alive, high-quality and pleasurable, working at the visceral level of emotional design; but it has to be restrained and purposeful, because overdone sensory richness quickly becomes noise that distracts and fatigues.

The flat version was fine; the sensory version - a touch of depth, a satisfying little animation, a responsive feel - made the same interaction feel crafted and alive. That's sensory appeal, working on the senses to lift quality and pleasure. But notice the restraint: a small dose delights, while piling it on would distract and tire. Seasoning, not the whole meal - and always optional for those who'd rather have less.
